Believing that surroundings can influence one` s health and mind, Painter and Physiotherapist Aase Birkhaug has combined her two passions by painting roses for a soothing effect on humans.

I am compared to the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo who said “ I paint flowers so that they shall not die “ and I say” I paint Roses so that I shall not die”. Impact on humans from nature, flora, botanics and for me the most beautiful flower The Rose. I have an Art – Nature – Health project where art, nature physiotherapy, medicin and science walk together hand in hand. I believe that it is possible to heal or change a negative mind to a positive mind.

My artistic process and my approach  to creation starts when I am out in the nature and in the Botanical Gardens where I get my impressions for new paintings to create. I take photos when I am out in the nature, in the botanical gardens, the rosaries or just when passing gardens which is  embedded with flowers Roses or colors that is eye catching. In Norway where I live we have 4 seasons during the year, winter, spring, summer and autumn. The 4 seasons have all of them their  inspiration with colors but I feel that spring and summer and early autumn is the most impressive seasons related to the impact the flowers, Roses and nature give me. This because I mainly paint Roses and I try to catch the colors which impress me every time and every day when I am out walking or running. I take a lot of photos and I think my Iphone has about 15000 photos of Roses  pt. Looking at all those photos of roses or flowers printing them out and using them for visual and  colorful inspiration for a new painting to come. I can do a painting strictly after the motive or I can  work intuitively and just let the motive be a sort of motivator and inspiration for a new painting  to  come.

Aase Birkhaug is also a designer for Costanza House of Fashion and today the Biannale Internationale Art Digitale opens in Italy together with a fashion show where the paintings - the motives are printed on fabrics to fashion clothes. From June 27, 2020 at 19:00 you will be able to discover Aase Birkhaug - www.costanzahf.com

Is the Future of Art Virtual?

Is the Future of Art Virtual?
By Global Arts Commentator and Benefactor Natalia Cola

The majority of the world's museums and galleries have been using the online space for quite some time, but it is extremely recently that it suddenly became the only available platform. With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and the necessity to self-isolate, online platforms have become a means of survival and functioning for galleries.

World Museums and Art Fairs are faced with the same challenges; bearing in mind Art Basel Hong Kong was cancelled, Art Basel is now organizing online visits for the first time. With more than 200 galleries presenting 2000 pieces of contemporary art through a virtual art fair worth an estimated value of 270 million dollars (USD), and more than 70 pieces individually valued at over $1 million, it will be a significant milestone.

One of the first galleries that successfully created virtual viewing rooms was the David Zwirner Gallery. In 2017, art dealer David Zwirner realised that his gallery could generate healthy business through online previews before the opening of Art Fairs.

In 2019, the Website Singulart.com created a service for advice, purchases, and the delivery of contemporary art. They provide expertise and handle the delivery of said art directly to the doorstep of buyers. This gallery exists only as an online platform and if a coupled of years ago it was rather the exception, and not the first choice for customers, right now, online galleries are rapidly becoming equal players in the contemporary art market.

As galleries adapt to the new virtual environment, they are not only arranging online viewing rooms, but are also becoming useful and innovative educational providers in the modern world. Serpentine Galleries, for example, arrange special online educational programs that open up new opportunities to communicate and work with artists which the gallery represents.

Many in the art world were not sure that online viewing rooms could replace the first-hand experience of seeing paintings or sculptures in person. Naturally, collectors feel quite confident to buy works from artists whom they know from a gallery that they trust, but that may not always be the case.

Once the coronavirus abates, and restrictions are once again lifted, will Art's future remain a virtual one?
