Miguel E

Hello, I am

Miguel E

ABOUT

Miguel E (pseudonym) was born in Lisbon, Portugal. Currently he lives in Warsaw where he has his studio. He is a member of SNBA (National Society of Fine Arts) from Portugal. Having a Master degree in Engineering from Lisbon University he has always been connected with areas such as Architecture, Design and Engineering in all his professional career.

But his greatest passion is Art.

From childhood he couldn’t stay one single day without drawing and so he has been painting all his life. By nature, Miguel is permanently touched when emotions, subtly or in all their plenitude, surround him. From the deepest emotions of the Woman's soul, (represented by series "Nudes” & “Faces"), to the most subtle instants from daily relations between People (serie "Stories"), he aims to represent in his canvases his view of the emotions arisen from those single moments. It is in painting that he frees himself finding the beauty of each single moment. Sharing his works he kindly invites all to feel the emotions of those moments and, due to their own interpretation, to see beyond.

As someone once said:
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see”

Miguel’s works have been attending exhibitions in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Poland. His paintings belong to private collections located in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Poland.

What is Art anyway?

Traditionally, 7 were considered the main disciplines of Contemporary Art: Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, Poetry, Music, Literature and Dance. More and more, nowadays, we are witnessing a very rich diversification of forms of artistic expression as well as their interconnection. Furthermore, the Digital Age and the generalized access to the means of communication have irreversibly transformed the World of Art, making room for new forms of artistic expression, shared on an unprecedented scale, which everyone now has access to. Art has been defined over the ages in so many different ways. Sometimes, according to the époque, with special emphasis on the technical skills of the artists in faithfully representing Beauty; at other times, due to other trends, rather stressing the imaginative capacity and artistic Creativity.

In my view Art is, definitely, a form of expression that makes us feel something, that move us, in some way, giving no room for indifference.

How would you describe your work to someone seeing it for the first time?

My work is all about People and Emotions.
Sharing my works I kindly invite all to feel the emotions represented and, due to each own interpretation, to see beyond.

But better then myself to talk about my works I prefer to share the words written by Art Curators concerning my work, during the latest Art Exhibitions in Italy and Spain:

…“Looking at Miguel’s works we immediately notice that the female figure, with her naked body and her face, is the protagonist. The first word that comes to mind when facing any of the exposed canvases is Beauty. The proportions, the harmony, the ability to make bodies emerge from a void space, standing out in all their magnificence, biology, are all essential traits to fully enjoy the great and indisputable beauty that stands out before our eyes. (…) Miguel is able to transmit through figurative language the subtle motions of the soul. Through a passionate and uninterrupted investigation, there is an attempt to grasp in the representation of women, in all the variations consistent with their own aesthetics, the deep sense of existence. The woman, between form and life, in her most intimate dimension, naked, helpless, becomes the image of grace and beauty embodying the poetic essence of the artist. Painting thus becomes a source of liberation for the artist, a profound connection between himself and those who observe his paintings, which, thanks to the beauty transmitted, fully relives with him the emotions of every single moment represented”…

What and which artists have influenced your work?

Julio Pomar, Joao Cutileiro, Almada Negreiros, Tamara Lempicka, Amedeo Modigliani, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Edward Hopper, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein

If you could collaborate with any artist past or present, who would you select and why?

Banksy.

For being an icon, representing all concerning the new expressions of Contemporary Art.
For the long lasting capacity to trigger everyone’s emotions, whatever they can be.

It is simply not possible to remain indifferent to the endless creativity put in each of his works.

For his ability to permanently surprise both, the elite of traditional Art connoisseurs and, as well, the endless anonymous Art lovers.

What can we expect to see from you in the future?

To aim to continue to trigger emotions through my works.
